Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ED RN - Nights)
Location: La Plata, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Emergency Department (ED)
- Shift: Nights (36 or 48 hours accepted; every other weekend required)
- Start Date: January 26, 2026
- Patient Population: All ages from infant to geriatrics in a fast-paced, high volume ER (not a trauma center)
- Average Daily Census: 130 patients
- Number of Beds: 47
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Experience: 2 years preferred; will consider less than 2 years with strong skillset; first-time travelers accepted
- Floating: Required within the specialty
- On-call: Not required
- Holidays: Required as scheduled
Licenses & Certifications Required
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA only, e-cards with eCodes required, must not expire within 30 days of start
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) - Required as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification - Required for ED staff, must be updated annually
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) - NCC C-EFM required (AWHONN not accepted)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, STABLE)
Required Documents & Compliance
- I9 or Attestation
- Government Issued Photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Background Checks including:
- 7-year criminal search within 30 days of start (updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
- Education Verification for highest level of education
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Employment Application/Resume (completed within 30 days of start)
- Work History Verification (previous 5 years)
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam within 1 year of start (including Latex Screen)
- Fit Test for N95 respirator within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (updated annually)
- Immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted, series not accepted)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (not required for ER RN unless Peds ER)
- Negative Drug Screen (9 or 10 panel depending on facility) within 30-45 days prior to start
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct-Apr)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required for this location but documentation may be collected for tracking
Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (score 80% or higher)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
- Competency Exam (score 80% or higher)
- Age Specific Competency Exam (score 80% or higher)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (score 80% or higher, excludes some roles)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (passport style with solid white/beige background)
- Completion of Computer System Agreement, Confidentiality Statement, Corporate Compliance Acknowledgement prior to start
- Signing of facility-specific job description and confidentiality agreement
- Security ID application within 72 hours of signing contract
- Review of dress code prior to start
- Completion of Portfolio Epic Training Test Out Form if applicable
Additional Notes
- Floating within the specialty is required
- Every other weekend and holidays as scheduled are required
- Locals accepted at local rate (not detailed here)
- First-time travelers are welcome
