Job Opportunity: Dietitian (Travel/Contract)

Location: Sacramento, California
Facility: UC Davis Medical Center


Position Details

  • Specialty: Dietary Services (Dietitian)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (5x8's)
  • Floating: Required
  • Weekend Coverage: Rotates with inpatient adult team approximately every 2 months or as needed
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 2 years of work experience
    • At least 2 years of acute care experience
  • Certifications Required:
    • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)

Clinical Skills & Knowledge Areas

Candidates should be proficient in:

  • Enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Adult outpatient/clinic nutrition
  • Acute myocardial infarction (MI)
  • Elevated cholesterol/triglycerides
  • Heart failure
  • Diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
  • Abdominal wounds and surgeries
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Hyperemesis
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Effects of pressors on GI functioning
  • Cirrhosis
  • Dialysis, hemodialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
  • Acute and chronic kidney disease
  • Blood glucose and A1C monitoring
  • Lipid panel interpretation
  • Use of diuretics, immunosuppressants, insulin, laxatives, steroids
  • Dysphagia and aspiration safety
  • Appetite stimulants
  • Enteral nutrition (tube feedings)
  • Fluid balance and assessment of fluid status
  • Nutrition therapy complications

  • Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
  • Cachexia and cancer-related nutrition issues
  • Chronic wounds
  • Development of treatment plans
  • Dietary guidelines and failure to thrive
  • Fluid/electrolyte requirements

  • Metabolic demands and morbid obesity

  • Nutrition assessments and reassessments
  • Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE)
  • Protein calorie malnutrition and refeeding syndrome
  • Acute care hospital and ICU experience

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • RTO (Return to Office) documentation must be submitted upfront
  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including SSN trace, all counties/states lived/worked, national sex offender search, nationwide criminal search)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
    • ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, Chemo certification as applicable based on cost center
    • National certification verification if applicable
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam cleared within one year of start
    • Fit mask testing (N95 or equivalent) within one year of start
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within past 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start
    • TB questionnaire prior to start and updated annually
    • Immunizations or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
    • Hepatitis B titer required or signed declination/series documentation
    • Negative drug test (10 panel) within 30 days of start
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required by November 1
  • Competency Exams:
    • Unit-specific competency exams with passing score of 80% required prior to start
    • Core Part I, II, and III exams must be completed prior to start and updated annually
  • Facility Specific:
    • Completion of UC Davis Medical Center orientation modules prior to start
    • Badge pickup required prior to orientation (during business hours)
    • Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments required prior to start

References & Employment History

  • Two clinical references required, including one from most recent or recent employer (within 6 months)
  • Employment application covering last 3 years with explanation for gaps over 6 months

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers are accepted for this position
  • Floating responsibilities and weekend rotation require flexibility
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all required documentation and training modules prior to start date to avoid cancellation
