Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)


Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience prior to travel assignment.
  • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
  • Certifications required:
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Use of Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked.

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN Trace, Counties, States, Nationwide, National Sex Offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, Education Verification)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 48 hours of contract signing; results must be current within 12 months and updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting code: 4723.09 (Nursing).
  • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending but must complete prior to contract extension.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.

Certifications & Testing

  • ACLS: AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable.
  • BLS: AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable.
  • PALS: Preferred but not required for this role.
  • TNCC: Trauma Nursing Core Course preferred but not required.
  • Pass/Fail Testing: EKG and medication competency testing required onsite during orientation for bedside RNs (except OR RNs).
  • Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season Oct 31 - Mar 31)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Eye exam required within 1 year of start for new candidates (not required for return candidates with less than 40-day gap).

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
  • Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Completion of online onboarding modules prior to start is mandatory; modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for pass/fail testing during orientation.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 6 months may need to repeat onboarding modules.
  • Candidates must renew certifications and licenses if they expire within 30 days of start.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free gloves availability.
  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific competency and safety requirements.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Cons

Cleveland Clinic, the main campus, cuts the staff when adding more work. This is very disorganized and harmful to the rest of the staff.
