Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical/Surgical (Correctional)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) with correctional experience preferred
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Call Requirements: None
• Return to Office (RTO): Up to 5 days max, no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
• Floating: Mandatory float within scope to meet facility needs

Experience & Certification Requirements

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing
• Correctional Experience: Preferred but not required
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Locals Accepted: Yes, locals preferred (must live within 75 miles of the facility)
• Pending License: Not accepted

• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Charting system: Cerner
• Parking: Free, first come first serve

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Social Security Card
• Background Check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Physical Exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
• Fit Mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
• Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
• Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
• Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for starts on/after 4/14/24)
• Color Blind Testing (required for starts on/after 1/16/24)
• Competency Exam (required for starts on/after 4/14/24)

Additional Notes

• This is a mandatory float facility; all clinicians must float as needed within their scope of practice.
• No block scheduling accommodations available.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.

This opportunity is ideal for RNs with acute Med/Surg experience interested in working in a correctional healthcare environment on a travel contract basis.
