Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical/Surgical (Correctional)
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) with correctional experience preferred
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Call Requirements: None
- Return to Office (RTO): Up to 5 days max, no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
- Floating: Mandatory float within scope to meet facility needs
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing
- Correctional Experience: Preferred but not required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Locals Accepted: Yes, locals preferred (must live within 75 miles of the facility)
- Pending License: Not accepted

- Correctional healthcare setting
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking: Free, first come first serve
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Social Security Card
- Background Check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical Exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit Mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for starts on/after 4/14/24)
- Color Blind Testing (required for starts on/after 1/16/24)
- Competency Exam (required for starts on/after 4/14/24)
Additional Notes
- This is a mandatory float facility; all clinicians must float as needed within their scope of practice.
- No block scheduling accommodations available.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
