Job Summary
The ECMO Specialist provides prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to patients whose heart and lungs cannot sustain adequate gas exchange or perfusion. This role involves delivering ECMO support across multiple critical care units including NICU, PICU, and CICU. Patients on ECMO may be supported until recovery or as a bridge to lung/heart transplant.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of ECMO ICU experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
Key Responsibilities
- Provide ECMO support in NICU, PICU, and CICU critical care units.
- Manage patients on ECMO for respiratory and/or heart failure.
- Support patients until recovery or as a bridge to transplant.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Proof of identity and eligibility to work (e.g., government-issued photo ID, Social Security Card).
- Background checks including a 7-year criminal history, sex offender registry, and other federal/state checks.
- Education verification (transcript or diploma).
- Drug screening (10-panel including marijuana) within 30 days of start.
- Health screening including physical exam, immunizations, and titers for:
- TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- TDAP vaccine (within 10 years)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or vaccination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity
- Seasonal flu vaccination (mandatory during flu season)
- Fingerprinting completed onsite on the first day.
- Competency exams and medication tests with a required 100% pass rate on pediatric medication test.
- Annual updates for core competencies and health screenings as applicable.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry photo identification during hours of service.
- Candidates must complete a health screening form prior to start.
- Flu vaccine declinations or exemptions are not accepted.
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this position.
- Candidates must have at least 3 years of prior work history documented, including 2 years in acute care and similar clinical areas.
