Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Description

  • 9 Trauma Unit: 45-bed medical/surgical unit focused on trauma patients who are hemodynamically and medically stable.
  • Fast-paced specialty medical/surgical unit caring for acute and chronic trauma patients admitted from ED, ICU transfers, or surgical/procedural services.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare).

Schedule & Work Details

  • Shift options: 36 or 48 hours per week.
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period.
  • Weekend days: Saturday and Sunday (days), Friday night and Saturday night (nights).
  • Floating required: Travelers are first to float and must be prepared to float frequently within scope to meet staffing needs, including to other units and potentially another campus.
  • Units for floating may include various medical/surgical and specialty units.
  • Facility is 100% nicotine-free.
  • Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start).
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital (higher experience requirement applies).
  • EPIC charting experience required.
  • Drip medication administration required on all floors.
  • BLS certification required.
  • First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
  • Must be located more than 100 miles from the facility (no local candidates).

Certifications & Compliance

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications required as applicable per unit description.
  • Background check within 30 days of start, including federal and state-level screenings.
  • Drug screening within 60 days of start and updated annually.
  • Physical exam and fit mask test required within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health documents required: Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, TB testing, flu vaccination documentation or declination.
  • Annual skills checklist required.
  • State-specific registry checks and education verifications required.

Additional Information

  • Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs (facility branded) required for RNs.
  • Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates.
  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • References: Two work references from the past 2 years required.
  • Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required prior to start.

Notes

  • RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates apply during College World Series (6/11/26 - 6/22/26).
  • Up to two weeks of RTO permitted, must be submitted with application. Additional requests at manager discretion.
  • Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
  • COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted.

This position is ideal for experienced trauma RNs comfortable with fast-paced environments, floating, and working with complex trauma patients in a large urban hospital setting.

Cons

Ethics are questionable at best, M/S unit demands higher acuity of care than most hospitals M/S units; a lot of the nurses are inexperienced.
