Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to work in a 30-bed Pediatric Operating Room unit serving patients from newborn to 17 years old. The role involves scrub and circulate duties with some weekday and weekend on-call responsibilities.


Schedule

  • 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each
  • Includes some weekday and weekend on-call (rotating schedule)
  • Guaranteed 40 hours per week
  • No floating to other facilities
  • No local candidates accepted (must live at least 75 miles away from facility)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Proficient in scrub and circulate duties
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Registered Nurse license for West Virginia (pending license accepted if active before start)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) – verify before start

Call & On-Call Requirements

  • Call required, self-scheduled with some weeknights and weekends

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medically or religiously exempt with proper documentation
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and no physical limitations
  • Annual fit mask testing required (N95) or accommodation provided if needed
  • Other immunizations required: Tdap, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella with appropriate documentation or boosters as needed

Background & Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
  • Social Security card and valid driver’s license required
  • References: Minimum 1 manager, supervisor, or charge nurse reference from within 1 year
  • Skills checklist for specialty required annually
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG, medication calculation, and blood administration required for nursing candidates
  • Various facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start

Additional Notes

  • No local candidates accepted; permanent address must be at least 75 miles from facility
  • Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) with specific training modules
  • Candidates must comply with all facility policies and complete required in-service training before starting
  • No guaranteed blocked schedule; must meet unit needs
  • Return to facility as a traveler not allowed within 2 years of last permanent employment there

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with pediatric and women's health experience who have prior travel assignments and are comfortable with on-call duties and a rotating schedule.
