Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU/Neuro Stepdown
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Registered Nurse for Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Neuro Stepdown
- Targeted Start Date: April 6 (urgent need)
- Floating: May float to Med/Surg, Neuro, Stepdown, PCU units
- Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
- Blocked Scheduling: Not available
- On-Call: Not required
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Local Candidates: Accepted (within 75 miles)
- Orientation: Bi-weekly sessions
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Additional Requirements
- Must have completed background checks including:
- Criminal background check within 90 days
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days
- Education verification as applicable
- OFAC sanctions list search within 30 days
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen (including THC) within 30 days of start
- Health documents required:
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
- Immunizations/vaccinations including Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Polio
- Seasonal flu vaccination (mandatory, no exemptions)
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Skills checklist and competency exams as required
- Must set up a guest account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
Notes
- Neuro experience is preferred but not mandatory if the candidate has strong general medicine or surgical nursing experience.
- Candidates must be willing to comply with all health and safety requirements, including mandatory vaccinations and drug testing.
- This role does not require on-call duties or blocked scheduling.
- Candidates new to travel nursing are welcome to apply.
This position offers a structured orientation and support for travel nurses, with a focus on neuro and stepdown care within a progressive care setting.
