Medical Surgical Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Contract Length: 12 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 to 7:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
• Typical Patient Diagnoses: COPD, Asthma exacerbation, Pulmonary Embolism, Pulmonary fibrosis, Pleural effusion, Pneumonia, Lung Cancer, RSV, Flu, COVID-19, Mycoplasma
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5-6
• Unit Size: 14 rooms, average daily census of 12
• Electronic Systems: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR
• Uniform Color: Navy Blue

Work Schedule & Requirements

• Weekends: Every other weekend
• Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
• Call: None
• Holiday Work:

  • If 1 major holiday occurs during assignment, expected to work it
  • If 2 major holidays occur, expected to work both
  • If 3 major holidays occur, expected to work 2 of them
• Major Holidays Include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
• Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start; includes criminal, sex offender, education verification, and others as specified
• Physical Exam: Required within 12 months prior to start
• Immunizations & Testing:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (or proof of positive TB with negative chest X-ray within 6 months)
  • TB Questionnaire updated annually, required regardless of TB status
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed post-start if eligible
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed post-start if eligible
  • Hepatitis B: Surface antibody titer or signed declination
  • Flu Vaccine or Declination required annually during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
• Drug Screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screen acceptable; cannot start with results pending

Additional Information

• Orientation: Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
• Compliance: Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays in compliance may result in assignment pushback by 2 weeks due to orientation scheduling
• References: Two clinical references required by agency; not required by client
• Locals Accepted: Local candidates accepted at same rate

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic medical-surgical unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of pulmonary and infectious diagnoses, supported by established electronic systems and a defined nurse-to-patient ratio. Night shift availability and flexibility to float within the facility are required.
