Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Escondido, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Position involves working as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse on night shifts.
• Labor RNs may float to Postpartum and to a nearby campus.
• Charting is done using Cerner EMR.
• This is a backfill position.
• No local candidates accepted.
• No first-time travelers; prior travel experience required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel assignment
• Certifications:

  • ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• I9 verification.
• Valid Driver’s License or State ID with address (copy front and back).
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
• Badge photo with white background and shoulders included (no selfies).
• Online orientation completion prior to start.
• Flu vaccination or signed declination form required before start.
• Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days prior to start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NP confirming good health and free of communicable diseases.
• Fit mask test within 12 months of start (annual renewal required for direct hires).
• Immunization or titer documentation for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (vaccination series, positive titer, or declination)
  • Varicella
• TB screening: 2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot within 1 year and updated annually; TB questionnaire annually if past positive.
• References: 2 professional references from manager, supervisor, or charge RN within last 3 years.
• Employment application and annual skills checklist required.

Competency and Testing Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with 80% pass rate, to be completed within 12 months of start.
• Unit specialty competency exam with 80% pass rate, to be completed within 12 months of start.
• Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) with 80% or above, updated annually.
• Pass/fail arrhythmia exam prior to start for ICU, CCU, PACU, Tele, Med/Surg, and related units.
• Cardiac rhythms course assigned via LMS platform with 100% passing score required (max 2 attempts).

Additional Notes

• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification is not required for this position.
• NIH Stroke Certification is not required for Labor and Delivery.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is preferred for ER but not required here.
• Candidates must carry copies of all required certifications at all times.
