Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Beckley, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Description

• Minimum 2+ years current experience in Telemetry (TELE), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), or Stepdown units.
• Patient ratios typically 1:5 or 1:6 (may fluctuate with census and call-ins).
• Experience with Meditech EMR preferred.
• Float within scope of practice required.
• Every other weekend shift required.
• Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated.
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
• Must reside within 75 miles of the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia.
• Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Telemetry experience.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Schedule

• 36/48 schedule for the two-week pay period (36 hours worked, 48 hours off).

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Unexpired government-issued photo ID.
• Background checks including national criminal search, sex offender registry, fugitive database, county searches (last 7 years), and federal exclusions.
• Education verification.
• Drug testing within 30 days of start (9-panel with expanded opiates and oxycodone; no THC).
• Annual physical exam or physician note stating clearance to work without restrictions.
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (valid within 10 years; Td not accepted).
  • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON blood test within 1 year; T-Spot/PPD not accepted).
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) proof of immunity or vaccination.
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination.
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption.
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG (except Psych, OR, Rehab, Med Surg), and core competencies.
• Skills checklist and work history verification (7 years).
• References: 2 references within 1 year of start date; one must be a supervisor.
• State-specific clearances (e.g., West Virginia APS/CPS search).

Additional Notes

• Driver’s license required for submission.
• Float assignments required within scope of practice.
• Candidates must not be submitted to more than one job at a time.
• Mask fit testing completed onsite; PAPRs not accommodated.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required only for ER and Psych/Behavioral Health (not required for this position).
• Must comply with facility-specific health and safety policies.
