Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Sonyea, New York
Contract Length: 26 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position in a correctional facility setting. Candidates must be able to work independently, perform nursing assessments, and provide care to an incarcerated population with professionalism, fairness, and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care including medication administration, dressing changes, and starting IVs
• Use Narcan and operate AED and EKG equipment
• Assist providers with suturing and minor surgical procedures
• Accurately follow and execute doctor's orders and medication administration records (MAR) setup and turnover
• Work independently and make clinical decisions
• Maintain attention to detail and demonstrate willingness to learn
• Provide care in a correctional/prison environment

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of correctional nursing experience within the last year
• Experience in a corrections setting
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background checks including 5-year and 7-year searches, sex offender registry, and fingerprinting (completed onsite at orientation)
• Education verification (diploma accepted in lieu of formal verification)
• Work history verification for the past 5 years (attestations accepted)
• Completion of facility-specific criminal history request forms prior to start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start date
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start (annual renewal may be completed onsite)
• Required vaccinations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Drug screening (9 panel) within 1 year of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination documentation (not required at this facility but must meet agency standards)
• COVID-19 vaccine booster preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required for RNs
• Competency exam required for all candidates
• Must be able to pass and maintain all background and health screenings as per state and facility regulations
• Must sign facility-specific criminal history request form before starting assignment

• Ability to maintain professionalism and safety while working with incarcerated individuals
• Various shifts available

• This is a travel/contract position with a 26-week contract length
