Job Description

• This is a travel contract position on a Step Down (SD) unit trialing a team nursing model (two nurses and a PCT caring for a group of patients). Nurses may function in team nursing or primary nursing depending on the trial status.
• Shift options: 36 or 48 hours. Overtime paid after 48 hours.
• Patient ratios target 1:4, can be up to 1:5-6.
• Patient population includes COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, Flu, Sepsis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, and Post-COVID patients.
• Care involves Telemetry, drips, vents, trach care (no orally intubated patients), bipaps, and high oxygen requirements. Insulin drips, heparin, Cardizem, and other drips are used. Respiratory Therapist support available.
• Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the unit unless PAPR is needed/offered. Navy blue scrubs required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
• Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

• Floating assignments will be medically appropriate and at the discretion of the employer.
• The employer reserves the right to cancel shifts or the contract with notice and without penalty.
• Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Valid government-issued photo ID.
• I-9 and E-Verify completed prior to start.
• 7-year criminal background check within 12 months, including SSN trace, national sex offender check, and county checks.
• Drug screening (9 or 10 panel including marijuana) within 12 months and lab work within 72 hours of contract signing.
• Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for duty.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination), and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
• Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and others as applicable.
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, unit-specific, and dysrhythmia/EKG competency within required timeframes.
• Two professional references within 2 years (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge nurse) or employment verification if references are unavailable.
• Current resume/application required.
• Skills checklist updated within 1 year.

Notes

• ICU experience does not substitute for Step Down/PCU experience.
• Must demonstrate prior experience with patient ratios of 1:5 in Step Down or PCU settings.
• Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
• Nurses will be first to float when needed.
• Must be able to work in a team nursing environment and adapt to trial models.

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with Step Down or Progressive Care experience, ventilator skills, and comfort working with complex patients requiring telemetry and multiple drips.
