Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) on a travel/contract basis.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Certifications (AHA only, Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable; letter of completion not accepted)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain units; verify unit-specific requirements.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units only.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units only.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Follow facility-specific expiration rules.
- NIH Stroke Certification – Required for certain units; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years if applicable.
Background and Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting results.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Official transcripts or diploma verification required.
- Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required with specific code (3701.881). Fingerprinting must be current within 1 year of start or renewed if there is a break in service over 90 days.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
- High school diploma or GED verification required.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if low titer.
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; medical exemptions require documentation.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Cannabinoids, Cocaine, Methadone, Methaqualone, Opiates, PCP, Propoxyphene). New travelers cannot start with drug screen pending.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear a mask.
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; collect proof if available.
Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exam required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for all RNs within 1 year of start except for excluded units or fully remote positions. Must be updated annually. Minimum passing score 76%. Remediation process available for failed attempts.
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership. Charge RN acceptable as second reference. No coworker references.
- Employment application required for all candidates.
- Skills checklist required.
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required.
