Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU/Stepdown
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Position Overview
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients requiring telemetry and intermediate care.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing, including experience within the last year
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficient with Epic electronic health record system
Additional Details
- First-time travel nurses are welcome.
- Local candidates within 75 miles are considered.
- Weekend shifts are required.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid government-issued photo ID and Social Security documentation as needed.
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender registry, and others as required.
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen (including THC) within 30 days of start.
- Health requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Polio
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations not accepted)
- References: Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months, including at least one supervisor.
- Employment application and skills checklist updated annually.
- Completion of required online modules and competency exams prior to or during orientation.
- Setup of a guest account for access to orientation and work systems prior to clearance.
Notes for Candidates
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and clearances before starting.
- Competency checklists must be completed within 3 weeks after start date.
- Training for crisis prevention and other unit-specific competencies will be provided during orientation.
- Candidates switching between facilities may need to reactivate guest accounts and re-verify credentials.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized PCU/Stepdown environment with a supportive orientation and clear scheduling expectations.
