Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Job Summary

Seeking experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurses to float across multiple units including ER holding, Postpartum, and Step Down. Nurses will care for adult patients within their scope of practice in a general med-surg float pool. Patient care includes general surgery, ortho/neuro post-op, post-stroke, and medical cases.

Patient Population

• Adults

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• Days: 1:5-6
• Nights: 1:6

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts available (3 or 4 shifts per week)
• Floating required as needed
• Strict every other weekend schedule unless working every weekend
• No guaranteed block scheduling

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Georgia
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Management of dysrhythmias
• Phlebotomy skills

Systems Used

• Medication system: Omnicell
• Documentation system: EPIC

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to care for a wide variety of Med/Surg patients including post-stroke, ortho, neuro, and post-surgery
• Must be flexible to float to different units as needed

Compliance and Documentation

• Background check within 30 days of start
• Official transcript or diploma required
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed yearly
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or documentation if previously positive)
• Immunizations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (titers or vaccines required)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (including Marijuana/THC)
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
• COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption required

Orientation and Testing

• EPIC testing on day 1
• Pass/fail exams for medication administration, EKG, and critical care (if applicable) during orientation
• Dysrhythmia guide and testing required for Med/Surg and related units
• Facility-specific training and documentation required prior to start

Other Notes

• Travel candidates should reside 50 miles or more from the facility
• Photo for badge required (passport style, white background)
• Scrub color codes vary by unit (e.g., Royal Blue for ED, Pink for Women/Children, Ceil Blue for Med/Surg)
