Job Opportunity: Outpatient Clinic Hematology Oncology Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Day shift, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
- Staffing ratio goal: 1 nurse to 4 patients (may be up to 1:5)
- Weekends vary based on unit needs
- Self-scheduling requests allowed; no set/blocked schedules
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday to Friday, day shift orientation
- Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Patient diagnoses include hematology malignancies such as multiple myeloma, chronic leukemia, lymphoma, and pre/post bone marrow transplant (BMT) and CAR-T therapy
- Unit procedures and treatments:
- Chemotherapy administration
- Blood transfusions
- IV antibiotics
- Management of oncologic emergencies (tumor lysis syndrome, cytokine release syndrome)
- Insulin and heparin drips
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
Required Skills & Clinical Responsibilities
- Peripheral and line blood draws, including central line and PICC line management
- IV placements and peripheral line care
- Drawing labs and line dressings
- Blood product administration
- EKGs and dysrhythmia monitoring
- Injections and immunizations
- Computerized charting using EPIC system
Preferred Experience
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS for certain units starting 11/13/25)
Required Qualifications & Compliance
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum of 1 year oncology experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficient in drawing labs
- Skilled in placing peripheral IVs
- Experienced in accessing ports and PICC lines
- Competent in central line blood draws
- Knowledgeable in peripheral line care and management
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

- Orientation includes hands-on preceptor time on the unit
- Self-scheduling allows input on preferred shifts before final schedule is posted
- Facility uses EPIC for electronic medical records
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
