Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse

Newport News, Virginia

Contract Length

13 weeks

Shift Details

Day shift, 3 shifts per week (12 hours each, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
Weekend coverage required every other weekend (Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday)
Flexibility preferred; may be scheduled on holidays during assignment

Unit Description

Float pool covering multiple Critical Care Units:
- Surgical ICU (SICU): trauma, surgical complications, neuro patients, open-heart surgery
- Medical ICU (MICU): critically ill with medical comorbidities
- Cardiac Care Unit (CCU): post-cardiac procedure monitoring
- Oncology ICU (OICU): critically ill oncology patients and chemo inductions
Units also care for patients with DKA, alcohol withdrawal, and other high-acuity needs
Facility has three 18-bed ICUs and one 6-bed Oncology ICU

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
Minimum 2 years of float nursing experience, with float experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
