- Position: PICU Registered Nurse (RN)
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Must be willing to float to NICU, Cardiovascular PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical units as needed.
- Assignments will be appropriate to experience and float expectations.
- Recent Level 1 PICU experience required.
- Highly preferred: 2 years of PICU experience.
- First-time travelers will be considered with closer to 3 years of PICU experience.
- Two supervisory references required, including at least one supervisor or manager reference. Charge RN reference acceptable for one. Peer references are not accepted.
Required Qualifications
- License: Ohio State RN license or Compact RN license required.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years PICU experience preferred; 3 years preferred for first-time travelers.
- References: 2 professional supervisory references required.
Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
- BLS (American Heart Association only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
- PALS (American Heart Association only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required for NICU float assignments
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as applicable
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) as applicable
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Current government-issued photo ID required within 24-48 hours of contract signing (no temporary IDs or paper licenses accepted).
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including 7-year county search, education verification (standalone through National Student Clearinghouse), and international background check if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting required within 60 days of start and must be updated for each new contract. Fingerprinting can pend at start if completed onsite.
- Sex offender search, Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Ohio Inmate Registry, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, and Ohio State Abuse Registry searches required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification required, including highest degree verification through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if school is not listed. Special approval required for nursing diplomas without ASN/BSN.
- Drug screen (9-panel) negative result within 60 days prior to start, including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, methadone, phencyclidine, fentanyl.
- Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
- Affiliating Health Record must be completed and address must match ID and employment application exactly.
- Infection Control Policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required to be renewed annually).
- N95 Fit Testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually. Acceptable masks include 3M 1860/1860S, Moldex 1513/1511, and Halyard/Kimberly Clark N95 Duckbill. Fit testing documentation must be provided; photos/screenshots not accepted.
- TDAP vaccine required within 10 years of start (must be completed after age 11). Titer in place of vaccine record not accepted.
- TB testing options: Two PPDs (first within 12 months, second within 90 days) or QGOLD/TSPOT within 12 months. For positive results, additional documentation and treatment required. TB testing not required annually unless there is a break in assignments, specialty/unit change, or agency flip.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required. Religious exemptions not accepted. If negative or equivocal titer, 2 boosters required at least 28 days apart. Candidate can start with second booster pending but must complete both.
- Hepatitis B: Declination, proof of completed 3-vaccine series, or positive titer required.
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required. Negative or equivocal titer requires 2 boosters at least 28 days apart. Candidate can start with second booster pending but must complete both.
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required October 31 - May 31. Declination not accepted; medical/religious exemptions require facility approval and completion of exemption policy document.
- Additional health documents may be required for positive TB results or vaccine exemptions.

- Must comply with facility float expectations.
- Legal name on all documents must match RN license and certifications exactly (no nicknames or aliases).
- Candidates undergoing name changes must provide proof.
- Local Ohio addresses within 60 miles of the facility are considered local and may affect eligibility.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required; first-time travelers considered with sufficient PICU experience.
