Dietitian (Pediatric) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Pediatric Dietitian (Dietary Services)
- Daily caseload: 9-12 patients per day
- Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (8 hours/day, 40 hours/week)
- Weekend requirement: Every 3rd weekend, 0-3 weekend shifts per contract
- On-call: Required, including weekends and holidays
- Floating: Yes, within pediatric scope
- Block scheduling: Accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted within 100 miles radius
- First-time travelers: Accepted
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist) license in New Mexico
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an RDN, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients in an inpatient setting
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- RD or RDN (Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist)
- Strong foundation in Enteral Nutrition and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)
- Skills include: assessments, reassessments, calorie counts, TPN calculations (macro and micro), enteral calculations, advancements, and stabilizations
Facility & Work Environment
- Type: Level I Trauma, Children’s Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Short-term Acute Care
- Total staffed beds: 554
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking: No fee
Scheduling & Hours
- Contracted hours: 36-48 hours per week (typically 40 hours)
- Facility may call off up to 3 shifts
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative travel work, whichever comes first
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked (effective 10/30/2025)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Social Security card required for verification
- Background checks:
- 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within one year of start
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
- Education verification or diploma/transcript required
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (including TB questionnaire annually)
- Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- COVID vaccination required (religious and medical exemptions accepted with form)
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required; boosters may be needed if titers are low or equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer acceptable
- Fit mask required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed)
Testing & Competency Requirements
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam (EKG) required for pediatric units (must score 80% overall and 100% on lethal arrhythmia section)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (minimum 80% score)
- Pass/fail testing and competency exams must be completed as part of orientation and ongoing compliance
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgement required
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit
Additional Notes
- Travel time off (RTO) longer than 7 days requires approval
- Candidates must complete a traveler compliance form and review facility welcome materials prior to start
- Two professional references within the last three years required
- Complete employment application with at least 3 years of work history required
- Work history verification for 3 years required, including detailed verification information
- COVID vaccination documentation or declination must be uploaded (facility still reports vaccination status)
This position offers a pediatric dietitian the opportunity to work in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment with a focus on pediatric nutrition support, including enteral and parenteral nutrition. The role requires flexibility for weekend and on-call coverage and adherence to comprehensive credentialing and compliance standards.
