Registered Nurse – Correctional Facility (Travel/Contract)
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide routine and emergency healthcare to patients in a detention center with an average daily population of approximately 1640 inmates.
- Conduct health assessments, triage and assess new patients, make referrals to providers including detoxification, dental, and mental health professionals.
- Perform detox rounds per protocol.
Schedule & Hours
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 – 6:30)
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Open to block scheduling accommodations
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico (pending licenses accepted)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of wound care experience within the last year
- Correctional nursing experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) certification
Additional Information
- No local candidates accepted within 100-mile radius
- First-time travelers accepted, prior travel experience preferred but not required
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work at this facility
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked (effective 10/30/2025)
- Facility uses Cerner for charting
- Parking available at no cost
- Facility capacity approximately 1900 inmates
- Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation arrangements
Compliance & Documentation
- Background checks include SSN trace, national criminal history, sex offender registry, federal criminal record, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
- Fingerprinting done onsite during orientation; cost paid by candidate with possible reimbursement
- Must upload all required certifications and health documents prior to start
- Facility requires acknowledgment of safety manuals and compliance forms
This position is ideal for RNs with correctional or behavioral health experience who are comfortable working in a detention center environment and meet the specified certification and health requirements.
