Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job

Location: Cookeville, Tennessee
Facility Type: Short term acute care
Beds: 232 staffed beds
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Patient Population: Inpatient Oncology patients
• Specialty: Medical-Surgical (MS)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6 (will not be asked to exceed this ratio)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
• Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
• Local Candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 50 miles)
• On-call: Not required
• Guaranteed Hours: Call off allowed 12 hours per 2 weeks
• Charting System: Paragon
• Scrub Color: Royal blue
• Parking: Free

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (ARC, AHA, or US Department of Defense accepted)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification as required (AHA preferred)
• Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC) as required by unit or specialty
• 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Immunizations or titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Seasonal Flu vaccine required (or facility-specific declination form with mask requirement)
• COVID vaccine or facility-specific declination form
• 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months
• Government-issued photo ID carried during hours of service
• Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
• Completed employment application/resume
• Skills checklist
• Tennessee Abuse Registry clearance

Orientation and Testing

• Must review Nursing Orientation PowerPoint for Travel Nurses
• Pass/Fail Arrhythmia and Medication competency tests on first day (two attempts allowed)
• Advanced Arrhythmia test required for ICU, CVICU, Cardiac Cath Lab units
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
• Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail testing required

Additional Notes

• First-time travel nurses accepted
• Pending licenses are not accepted
• Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions handled case-by-case
• Facility-specific policies and guides (e.g., Restraint Seclusion Policy, Nurse Resource Guide) must be reviewed prior to start
