Job Overview
- Provide care in a 30-bed Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 24/7 coverage.
- Focus on cardiac patients including Congestive Heart Failure, Acute Coronary Syndrome, arrhythmias, pre/post cardiac catheterization, myocardial infarction rule out, syncope, and pacemaker placement.
- Secondary focus on respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, and BiPAP management.
- Patient rooms are remotely monitored by a centralized cardiac monitoring department.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 with drips/BiPAP, otherwise mostly 1:5.
- Nurse Assistants available 24/7; RN secretary available 7am-11pm.
- Use of Rapid Response Teams preferred.
- Electronic Health Record system: EPIC.
Schedule
- Night shift: 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
- Weekend rotation and holidays as needed.
- Scheduling done in 6-week blocks via self-assisted scheduling system based on patient acuity and staffing needs.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Cardiac PCU - Progressive Care Unit, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Comfortable managing 1:5 patient ratios.
- Proficient in use of EPIC Electronic Health Record system.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing requirements.
- Successful completion of Pass/Fail Testing including EKG and Medication competency exams.
Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse license valid in North Carolina.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC).
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred.
- Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam required (minimum 82% to pass, max 2 attempts).
- EPIC competency test required (minimum 80% to pass, max 2 attempts).
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card for badge issuance.
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
- Education verification with primary source verification; foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained outside the U.S.
- Employment application/resume with 7-year work history.
- Verification of employment history for the last 5 years through a third-party vendor.
- Two supervisory references required from clinical assignments within the last 24 months (one within 12 months).
- Annual skills checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal.
- Health documents including:
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start.
- Immunizations: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or declination), seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption during flu season.
- TB testing (Qgold/TSPOT within 6 months) and TB questionnaire updated annually.
- Fit mask test (N95 respirator) completed within current calendar year and updated annually.
- Fingerprinting required only if assigned to Home Health or Long-Term Care (not typical for this role).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and adhere to a zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences.
- Pass/Fail EKG exam is mandatory for all RNs regardless of specialty.
- Candidates must submit a professional badge photo meeting strict facility requirements prior to clearance.
- Floating policy and contractor equipment acknowledgement forms must be reviewed and signed.
- Candidates will receive Workday login credentials and must complete onboarding tasks before arrival.
