Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Telemetry experience required
- Must be able to read cardiac strips
- Accepts first-time travelers
- May float to other units
- Every other weekend coverage required
- No call requirement
- Scrubs color: Royal Blue
Unit Details
- Average census: 36 patients
- Rooms/Beds: 36
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- Patient population: Adolescents to Geriatrics
- Telemetry setting with general medical-surgical patients and moderate volume orthopedic surgical cases
- Total joint orthopedic experience required

- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
Required Skills
Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency Response
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring (unit and remote)
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
Cardiovascular Care
- Post Cardiac Angiogram care
- Post Myocardial Infarction (MI) care
- Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization
- Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery
IV Therapy / Phlebotomy
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
Medication Management
- Heparin protocols
- Manage cardiac drips (no titration)
- Manage vasoactive drips (no titration)
Respiratory / Thoracic Care
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Nasal Cannula and oxygen face masks
- Non-invasive airway management
- Tracheostomy management
Time Off (RTO) Policy
- RTO (Request Time Off) must be submitted with the application
- No RTO allowed during the first two weeks of the assignment
- Once submitted, RTO cannot be changed except to cancel time off
- Confirm all needed time off for the full 13-week contract before submission
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated monthly
- Education verification required
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (advanced level required prior to start)
- Other competency exams as applicable (e.g., fetal monitoring for L&D)
Health and Safety
- Physical exam within 1 year, free of communicable disease
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (with religious exemption process if applicable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required vaccinations or documented immunity:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Hepatitis B (3-dose series, positive titer, or declination)
- Seasonal Flu and COVID vaccinations or facility-specific declinations during flu season (Nov-Mar)
- Negative 7-panel drug test within 30 days of start
Additional Training
- Fire Card specific to Los Angeles (must be obtained within 2 weeks after start)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training with in-person component required for ER and ICU RNs (can pend at start if online version on file)
- Harassment Prevention Training (1 hour for non-supervisory clinical staff)
References and Employment History
- Clinical candidates: 2 professional references from manager level or above, validated within 2 years
- Employment application/resume with at least 1 year relevant experience and 7 years work history if applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually (not required for non-licensed workers)

- Photo for badge required (white background, shoulders up)
- Facility-specific pre-start modules must be completed before assignment start
- Strict policy on dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam: single attempt only, failure results in cancellation
