Facility: OKTUL St John Medical Center (Ascension Health)
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Job Summary
- Provide direct nursing care following established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions appropriately.
- Coordinate all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
- Follow physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning with healthcare team members.
Work Environment & Requirements
- Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) following standard precautions is required.
Required Credentials & Compliance
Licenses & Certifications
- Current nursing license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start.
- BLS certification (American Heart Association).
- License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
Exams & Testing (Must be completed prior to start and updated as required)
- Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts).
- Ascension Medical Surgical Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts).
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, max 2 attempts).
- Ascension Cerner Test-Out with signed attestation.
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical specialty; completed within 1 year, updated annually).
Onboarding & Training
- Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training).
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (onsite).
- Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules.
- Ascension Badge Photo (forward-facing headshot, white or blue background, no filters).
Health & Immunizations
- Proof of two MMR vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
- Fit Test (preferred prior to start; required for all travelers; updated annually).
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Varicella immunity proof or two-dose vaccine series (no declinations accepted).
- Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
- Health Statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
- 2 Step PPD or IGRA testing with annual TB questionnaire; if positive, chest X-ray within 1 year required.
- Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
Background & Verification
- Ascension Profile (resume or professional profile).
- Two professional references prior to first assignment.
- Criminal background check including SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, and national sex offender registry (updated annually).
- EPLS check within 90 days of start.
- Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start.
- Employment verification for past 7 years (updated annually).
- Driver’s License/State ID (valid, matching address requirements).
Optional / Additional Information
- Influenza vaccine is optional; if declined during flu season, mask wearing is required.
- Positive PPD with negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire are optional but recommended.
- Ascension Exit Survey post-assignment (optional).
- Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (optional for onboarding).
- Hiring Manager Evaluation and Name Change Documentation (optional).
This position is ideal for experienced Medical/Surgical RNs who are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment and meet Ascension Health’s comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
