Pharmacy Technician

Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Rotating days/evenings, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM (including weekends)
Unit: Inpatient Hospital Pharmacy

Job Description

• Retrieve medications from central pharmacy and accurately fill automated dispensing cabinets.
• Perform intermediate mathematical calculations for preparing non-sterile and extemporaneously compounded pharmaceutical products.
• Comply with all applicable state and federal controlled substance regulations.
• Utilize and continuously improve skills with area-specific technology such as robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.
• Prepare medications, including IV compounds, in a sterile environment by reading and following complex verbal and written instructions.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Pharmacy Technician license in Massachusetts
• Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Registration
• National Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT or ExCPT)
• Minimum of 1 year of pharmacy technician experience, including recent experience within the last year
• Previous hospital-related pharmacy technician experience
• High school diploma or equivalent

Systems & Equipment Used

• Epic (Electronic Medical Record system)
• Omnicell (Automated medication dispensing system)

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

• Primary source verification of professional license and certification within 30 days of start date (no conditional licenses accepted).
• Documentation of immunizations or immunity for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella).
• TB screening within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test) and updated if there is a break in service longer than 6 months.
• Physician health statement within 1 year of start date, updated if break in service exceeds 6 months.
• Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start, including county and international residence history for the past 7 years.
• Massachusetts CORI criminal history check within 30 days prior to start.
• National sex offender registry check within 30 days prior to start and updated annually.
• Exclusion checks against OIG, GSA, MassHealth, and NH Medicaid lists within 30 days prior to start and annually.
• Verification of highest level of education achieved.
• Social Security Number trace for the past 7 years.
• Submission of a detailed resume covering the last 7 years of work experience.
• Two professional references within the last 4 years, including at least one supervisor or higher.
• Completion of a skills checklist within 1 year of submission.
• Submission of a candidate coversheet for initial assignment and new facility submissions.
• Confirmation of assignment form required upon acceptance and for extensions.

Preferred (Optional) Health Requirements

• Hepatitis B vaccination or proof of immunity (or declination).
• Tdap vaccination within the last 10 years.
• If positive TB test, documentation of a negative chest x-ray after the positive test.
• TB symptom survey if positive PPD, updated annually.

This position requires a reliable, detail-oriented pharmacy technician with hospital experience and appropriate certifications, able to work flexible rotating shifts in an inpatient pharmacy setting.
