Registered Nurse - Pediatric Oncology

Location: Norfolk, Virginia
Employment Type: Long Term
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night

Job Description

Provide nursing care in a 16-bed inpatient Hematology/Oncology unit.
Manage patients with various cancer diagnoses, administering chemotherapy, blood components, fluid/electrolyte replacements, and oncology treatments.
Assess patient conditions, manage side effects, and offer emotional support to patients and families.
Work in a fast-paced environment requiring strong prioritization skills.
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for HemOnc patients; may fluctuate to 1:4 when med/surg patients are present.
Collaborate with charge RN and team lead RN who assist with double checks, high alert drugs, procedures, and patient transport.
Nursing Care Partners assist with nursing assistant tasks.
Schedule includes 12-hour day or night shifts, 36 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 18 months of experience in acute and chronic care settings with solid oncology experience.
APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Status.
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Flu vaccination required, no exemptions allowed.
