Registered Nurse – Oncology

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holiday

Unit & Patient Population

• MedSurg Oncology unit with a patient ratio typically 4:1 or 5:1 on day and evening shifts.
• Night shift ratio usually 5:1, occasionally up to 7:1, with tech support always present.
• Patient population includes surgical and medical oncology patients, with a small number receiving chemotherapy treatments.

Job Responsibilities

• Float as needed to other areas within scope of practice, often in 4-hour blocks, and float before staff RNs.
• No on-call or call-back requirements.
• Eligible for low census hours in increments (typically 4 or 8 hours), which are not considered on-call.

Required Qualifications

• Wisconsin RN License.
• BLS certification.
• Chemotherapy certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, with oncology experience required.
• Preferred: 1 year experience on a MedSurg Oncology unit.
• Electronic charting experience required; Epic EMR experience preferred.

Equipment & Systems

• Epic EMR system.
• Rovers for medication scanning.
• Alaris infusion pumps.

Additional Information

• Contractors must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility.
• Scrub color: any color allowed.
• Orientation week hours are not guaranteed.
• Flu and COVID vaccination policy: During flu season, travelers who decline vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action.
