Job Opportunity: Mental Health Clinician

Location: East Elmhurst, New York
Setting: Correctional Health Services (Rikers Island)
Contract Length: 14 weeks

Job Description

• Provide quality mental health care to incarcerated adult men.
• Conduct mental health evaluations, crisis intervention, assessments, and follow-up care.
• Determine and coordinate patient disposition for appropriate levels of mental health care.
• Collaborate with Reentry Social Workers for discharge planning.
• Complete required statistical reports and documentation.
• Work closely with the Department of Correction to ensure patient access, housing, and treatment disposition.
• Coordinate patient care with other institutional programs.
• Develop and lead group treatment sessions on mental health observation units and other assigned units.
• Participate in clinical supervision weekly and attend mental health and medical rounds.
• Participate in case conferences and treatment planning.
• May conduct psychological testing and supervise social work interns or student volunteers.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
• New York State License in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology.
• Preference for candidates with experience in assessment and treatment of adults with behavioral problems, substance use histories, and severe mental illness.
• Preference for inpatient or related experience.
