SPD Instrument Processing Specialist

Job Summary

Ensure proper maintenance of all surgical instrument sets and equipment.
Track lost and broken instrumentation and maintain digital records using Instrument Tracking System software.
Perform weekly missing instrument audit reports.
Support department activities to optimize instrument and equipment processing.
Act as a patient advocate.
Perform delegated activities to support the operating room team in surgical patient care.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday
8-hour shifts, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM
Overtime as needed
No weekends or on-call required

Required Qualifications

High school graduate or GED.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, including experience within the last year.
Certified Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Bioprocessing Sterile Processing Technician (CBSPD) certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Proficiency with Instrument Tracking System software and Sterile Processing Management (SPM) systems.
Completion of technician education or equivalent work experience.

Pros

APP and MD teams are very welcoming of locums staff. There are regular updates sent to the APP team. APP manager is top notch. Unit provides Level IV neonatal care.

Cons

This is a high census, high acuity 51 bed NICU, often with census 55-70. There are satellite spaces to accommodate increased census. It takes a bit to understand how APP teams are divided up and which attending you round with, especially with very high census and/or when the APP team is working short.
