Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care under supervision, implementing the nursing process including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The RN collaborates with the care team to ensure quality patient care and is responsible for documentation, communication, and coordination of services. The role requires maintaining clinical skills and competencies relevant to the ICU patient population.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-appropriate nursing care based on patient assessment and growth/development principles.
  • Perform thorough and timely documentation, shift reports, and verbal communication.
  • Communicate pertinent patient information to healthcare team members.
  • Assist in coordinating services with medical, nursing, and other departments.
  • Respond effectively during emergency situations.
  • Maintain and update clinical skills, competencies, and certifications.
  • Perform technical nursing skills including medication administration, IV starts, Foley catheter insertion and maintenance, venipuncture, blood product administration, restraint application, sterile dressing changes, and care of lines (intracranial, central, arterial, peripheral), ventilated patients, and tracheostomies.
  • Troubleshoot and operate equipment such as traction devices, wound vacuum systems, monitoring devices, and dialysis equipment.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans and educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and medications.
  • Use critical thinking and professional judgment to respond promptly to clinical changes and prevent complications in patients requiring cardiac monitoring, stroke care, medical-surgical, and trauma care.
  • Communicate effectively and adhere to organizational values including customer service, safety, infection control, and compliance standards.
  • Follow patient care policies, procedures, and standards of care consistently.
  • Promote positive patient and coworker experiences through professional communication.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification
