Tower 18 (MedSurg/Tele) RN

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• Days
• Every other weekend
• Holidays rotated with perm staff

Assignment Details

• 20-bed MedSurg/Tele unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
• Charge nurse every shift
• Floating is required to MedSurg/Tele acuity floors only
• No call or standby requirement

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS required for floating purposes
• Must be proficient with IV starts and blood draws
• Strong general medicine/internal medicine experience
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Must be tele competent for floating purposes
• Must pass a tele competency exam/EKG exam
• Must be experienced with basic EKG
• Must know how to interpret strips and perform cardiac drips for floating purposes

Preferred Qualifications

• Charge experience
• Epic experience

Clinical Notes

• Lower-acuity general medicine/internal medicine population
• Common patient types include cellulitis, abdominal pain, inpatient rehab/SNF transition patients waiting for insurance authorization, surgical overflow, direct admits, transplant workups, behavioral patients, and infections
• This floor does not have tele, but tele competency is required for floating
• Common drips: heparin and lasix
• Techs can do lab draws and EKGs
• RT is shared between floors and may set up home CPAPs and provide breathing treatments

Orientation

• First 12 hours split into an 8-hour day and a 4-hour day for policies/procedures and Epic training
• Second day: 12-hour shadowing shift with a preceptor
• Third day: 12-hour shift taking patients with a preceptor
• Independent after that

• Navy scrubs
