Respiratory Therapist (Licensed) - West Virginia (Princeton)

Position Overview

Seeking a Licensed Respiratory Therapist with 3 years of experience to work in a community hospital setting covering a wide variety of units.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of Respiratory Therapy experience
  • Experience in ER, ICU, and inpatient adult care required
  • Pediatric experience preferred; training available for pediatrics
  • Must have experience with:
    • Ventilator management (Puritan Bennett 840, Hamilton C1, Avea)
    • ABG draws and analysis
    • BiPAP, CPAP (including infant vents/CPAP)
    • Resuscitation (NRP, PALS)
    • EKGs (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Ability to assist with intubation (not independently intubate)
  • Core RTs may place arterial lines
  • Able to manage up to 8-9 ventilators simultaneously in ICU

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) via NBRC required; RRT preferred
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • STABLE Certification

Patient Population & Work Areas

  • Primarily adult patients, with some pediatric inpatient and family birthing unit (no C-sections)
  • Coverage includes all inpatient areas, Emergency Department, inpatient and outpatient EKGs, outpatient bronchoscopies
  • May initiate CPAP on infants
  • Sleep Lab, Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehab exist but travelers are not required to cover these areas

Work Schedule & Environment

  • 12-hour shifts, rotating day/night (06:45-19:15 and 18:45-07:15)
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (option to work only weekends may be available)
  • Holidays: Christmas and New Year's if scheduled to work
  • No call or standby call required
  • Floating only within the facility
  • Professional dress code: any color scrubs, clean shaven for men, no long nails

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Day 1: General orientation
  • Day 2: Classroom orientation and modules
  • Approximately 3 days shadowing with a preceptor before independent assignments
  • Skills assessment and possible second interview on site

Additional Notes

  • Department typically staffs 5 RTs during the day and 4 at night
  • Therapists may perform 40-70 treatments per day
  • Travelers will not be required to transport critical care patients outside the facility
  • Lead therapist or supervisor available for support and questions at all times
