Telemetry Float Pool Nursing Opportunity
Location: Chandler Regional Medical Center, Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking experienced nurses for a travel contract in the MS/Telemetry float pool. Candidates must have:
- Minimum 2+ years current telemetry experience
- Active BLS, ACLS, and Arizona nursing license or compact license
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips (Amio, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine to titrate down ONLY)
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (2 attempts max)
- Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- COVID vaccine required or approved declination
Travelers will float frequently between Chandler Regional Medical Center and Mercy Gilbert campus (9 miles apart). Floating includes various units and sometimes mid-shift changes.
Certifications Required
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS (for Neuro unit)
Floating Expectations
- Float between Telemetry, MedSurg, ICU, Cardiac Tele, Cath Lab, ER, observation floor, and other holding areas
- Notification of unit/campus 1.5 hours before shift start
- Must clock out/in when moving between campuses
Units & Details
Telemetry B3A (CV Tele)
- Beds: 32
- Ratios: 1:3-4
- Weekend: Every other weekend
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Centralized telemetry; must interpret EKGs
- No ventilators
- Hospitalist on site during day, on call at night
- RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating to similar or lower acuity units
- Orientation: 2 days on floor
- Patient types: Post cath lab, vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
- Charge nurse present (no patient assignment)
Tele Neuro (A3 Neuro)
- Beds: 28
- Ratios: 1:3-4
- Weekend: Every other weekend
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Centralized telemetry; must interpret EKGs
- No ventilators or ICP monitoring
- Hospitalist on site during day, on call at night
- RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Orientation: 2 days on floor
- Patient types: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVAs post TPA
- Charge nurse present (no patient assignment)
Medical-Surgical C5
- Beds: 32 (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
- Ratios: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Weekend: 4 shifts per 4-week period including one major and one minor holiday
- Scrub Color: Navy
- GE monitors with central monitoring tech
- No ventilators
- Must call physician for hospitalist coverage
- RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating to MedSurg Tele B2C and B2D
- Orientation: 2 shifts on floor
- Patient types: 80% surgical (including ortho knee/hip program), 20% oncology, urological, abdominal, Whipple, women’s surgeries (no OB/GYN)
- Charge nurse and unit supervisor present (no patient assignment)
- Spectralink phones (call light attached)
Medical-Surgical B2C
- Beds: 29
- Ratios: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Weekend: 4 shifts per 4-week period including one major and one minor holiday
- Scrub Color: Navy
- GE monitors with central monitoring tech
- No ventilators
- Must call physician for hospitalist coverage
- RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating to MedSurg Tele C5 and B2D
- Orientation: 2 shifts on floor
- Patient types: General MedSurg patients requiring telemetry
- Charge nurse and unit supervisor present (no patient assignment)
- Spectralink phones (call light attached)
- New grad training unit with clinical scholar mentorship for 4 weeks
- Auto offer off prescreen recommended
- First to float; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
Additional Notes
- Dysrhythmia exam must be passed within 48 hours of offer; failure results in removal from contract pool for 6 months
- Simulation lab on day 1 of orientation is pass/fail; failure results in removal for 6 months
- Floating is mandatory and may include mid-shift unit or campus changes
- Nurses must be comfortable titrating cardiac drips and interpreting telemetry/EKGs
- No pediatric patients; minimum patient age 15 years and older
