Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) - Temp - Long Term Care (LTC)

Job Description

• Provide rehabilitative, skilled, and medically necessary treatment interventions to patients with physical functioning disorders under the supervision and direction of a Physical Therapist.
• Utilize evidence-based practice to support clinical interventions.
• Administer procedures including manual techniques, ambulation, therapeutic exercises, modalities, and use of supportive and assistive devices.
• Assess patient progress and communicate with supervising Physical Therapist to adjust treatments accordingly.
• Report treatment outcomes effectiveness to supervising Physical Therapist.
• Provide consultation and counseling to patients, families, caregivers, and other service providers related to physical disorders.
• Communicate effectively with supervisor and healthcare team regarding patient progress, barriers, and treatment plans.
• Provide input for discharge summaries per regulatory and clinical requirements.
• Document all required information in electronic documentation systems and maintain patient records according to policy.
• Accurately record treatment minutes per regulatory and clinical requirements.
• Participate in patient care conferences, utilization review meetings, rehabilitation meetings, and required trainings or in-services.
• Collaborate with supervising Physical Therapist to obtain necessary durable medical equipment (DME) or supplies.
• Supervise and support students under the guidance of the Physical Therapist.
• Adhere to APTA and State-required practice acts, code of conduct, and ethics during professional practice.

Required Qualifications

• Active Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license for Missouri.
• Minimum 1 year of PTA experience.
• Experience in Long Term Care (LTC) or Rehabilitation settings.

Additional Information

• Typical treatment times: ~1 hour for Medicare B patients, 30-35 minutes for Medicare A and Managed Care patients.
• Caseload typically ranges from 7-12 patients per day, fewer if performing evaluations.
• Group therapy is allowed and may be used to help with productivity.
• Each therapist typically has a dedicated device for documentation.
• Productivity expectations: 90-93% for Assistants.
