Sterile Processing Tech (Temp)

Location: Petoskey, Michigan
Shift: Afternoons
Hours per day: 8
Contract length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Prepare, sterilize, install, or clean laboratory or healthcare equipment.
• Assemble equipment required for surgery, exams, and other medical procedures.
• Perform routine laboratory tasks and operate or inspect equipment.
• Organize and assemble routine and specialty surgical instrument trays and other sterilized supplies, fulfilling special requests as needed.
• Clean instruments and medical devices to prepare them for sterilization.
• Operate and maintain various sterilizers (steam, ETO, low-temperature gas plasma, peracetic acid, ozone, dry heat), keeping records of loads, items, and maintenance.
• Record sterilizer test results.
• Disinfect patient care equipment (e.g., infusion machines, DVT machines, suction pumps).
• Monitor sterilization equipment operation to detect malfunctions and ensure compliance with standards.
• Inspect equipment for leaks, worn or loose parts, or other disrepair signs.
• Check sterile supplies for proper storage and packaging integrity.
• Maintain inventory and equipment usage records.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, including experience within the last year.
• Certification from CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association).
• Prior travel experience required.

Additional Information

• Strict 3-strike attendance policy: termination after 3 absences or being more than 20 minutes late, with exceptions for documented communicable disease or hospitalization. Policy effective starting 6/1/2024.
• Located in a scenic area with outdoor activities and community events.
