Registered Nurse - CVICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; 13 weeks accepted)
Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Patient Ratio: 1:2


Job Description

  • High acuity Cardiac/CVICU critical care unit requiring specialized CVICU experience.
  • Care for patients with acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload, post cardiac arrest, complete heart block, cardiogenic shock, pre-heart transplant, arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia.
  • Management of ventilators, arterial lines, pulmonary artery catheters, pacemakers, Impellas, balloon pumps, LVADs, vasoactive drips, central lines, PA/TVP catheter monitoring, dialysis, and Foley catheters.
  • Floating within the service line may be required.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend.
  • No on-call duties.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • ACLS certification.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Candidate Requirements & Restrictions

  • Must live at least 75 miles from the facility (no local candidates accepted).
  • Time off requests limited to 2 requests totaling no more than 40 hours (5 days) during the contract.
  • Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually.
  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Criminal background check within 6 months required (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable).
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start.
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable for Missouri.
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois (not applicable here).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required.
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including panels for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP; must be current throughout assignment.
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or declination)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes; yearly TB questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - Apr 1).
  • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory).

Orientation & Facility Policies

  • Orientation modules (~16 hours) must be completed through the facility’s learning platform prior to start unless completed in the current calendar year.
  • Must review and sign facility policies including:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Hand Hygiene Policy
    • Fingernail Policy
    • Dress Code Policy
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).
  • Vehicle registration required for day shift workers.
  • Parking available with monthly fees; no charge for straight night shifts (not applicable here).

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; supervisors within the last year preferred.
  • Employment application must be completed and uploaded.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start.

  • This is a short-term acute care, Magnet-recognized, teaching hospital with Level I trauma designation.
  • Charting system: EPIC.
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue.
