ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - San Francisco, CA


Job Overview

  • Position: ICU Registered Nurse (Float Pool)
  • Location: San Francisco, California
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: Approximately 25 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts (Day: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / Night: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • Float Pool Role: Must float to multiple units including all TCUs, ICUs, Emergency Department (ED), and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) across various facilities and departments.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Job Requirements & Responsibilities

  • Ability to float across multiple units and facilities as needed
  • Work rotating 12-hour shifts on a 4-week schedule cycle, alternating between day and night shifts
  • Complete all required Return to Office (RTO) documentation at time of offer submission
  • Pass a facility-specific pass/fail Telemetry exam on the first day of orientation (two attempts allowed)

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background Checks: 7-year criminal background check including multiple county and nationwide databases, must be current within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification: Copy of diploma or transcript acceptable; must be verified by a third party
  • Work History: Verification of 7 years of work history required; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained
  • Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Drug Testing: Standard 9-panel drug test (excluding THC) required within 30 days of start; must be re-run every 2 years
  • Fit Mask Testing: Required within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available as last resort
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Includes medication and telemetry exams; must be passed during orientation

Immunizations & Health Requirements

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Vaccine required within last 10 years; no declinations accepted except medical exemptions with physician note
  • Tuberculosis (TB): Two negative TB tests required (one within 1 year, one within 3 months of start); chest X-ray required if positive or allergy documented
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required; if low titer, one MMR dose required
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination required; declination must be signed within 1 year of start
  • Varicella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required; history of disease not accepted
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Nov-April) unless a facility-specific declination form is submitted
  • COVID-19: Strongly recommended but not required as of current policy

Training & Competency Exams

  • Must complete core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) with a passing score of 80% or higher within one year prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exam required with a passing score of 80% or higher
  • Unit-specific competency exams required annually
  • Cyber Security Awareness Training and Quiz required annually with passing score of 80% or higher
  • HIPAA Healthcare Provider Module and Advanced HIPAA Module required for nursing staff, with quizzes requiring 80% or higher

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must submit all required Return to Office (RTO) documentation at time of offer; late submissions will not be considered
  • Candidates must review and initial COVID-19 preparedness, parking, and uniform policies prior to start
  • Physical and health documentation must be submitted at least two weeks prior to start date to allow for facility review
  • Candidates who have worked at the facility within the past 6 months may be exempt from repeating certain training modules
  • Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination require advance approval and documentation
