Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 – 7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Required experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty (Medical Surgical)
• First-time travelers accepted
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating to other units required
• Charting system: Epic
• Block scheduling not accommodated
• Local candidates accepted
• No pending license accepted
• Return to office restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or AHA RQI only (no other providers accepted)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for this position; AHA provider or AHA RQI only
• NIH Stroke Certification preferred

Required Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse license for Illinois
• Primary source verification of license must be completed within 30 days of assignment start
• NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

Required Documents & Background Checks

• Valid Driver’s License or State ID
• 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender registry, national and federal criminal checks, FACIS III, education verification, and international checks if applicable
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start (attestations acceptable for pending searches)
• Education verification: ADN or BSN required; diploma/transcripts acceptable if verification unavailable
• Employment verification covering last 7 years; gaps over 30 days must be explained
• Skills checklist for assigned and float units, updated annually
• Two professional references required
• Current resume including last 7 years of employment
• Illinois Department of Public Health Fingerprint Registry required if no Illinois state license (not applicable for RNs)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually, confirming good health
• Fit mask test within 1 year using approved masks (3M 1860 S/R, 1870+, or 9205+)
• Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
• Immunizations or proof of immunity (positive IGG titers or completed vaccination series) required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
  • Varicella
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or declination (Td not accepted in lieu of Tdap)
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year or clear chest X-ray for positive TB status, plus TB questionnaire if applicable
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (10/1 to 3/31); religious or medical exemptions require facility approval

Facility Orientation & Compliance

• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (~2 hours) prior to start
• COVID-19 and Influenza religious or medical exemption forms available; must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date for review and approval

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Current ACLS certification
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
