Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Big Spring, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3x12 hour shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Must have circulating experience in the Operating Room (OR).
- Schedule is primarily 5x8s with rotating call between two RNs:
- Call days rotate weekly (Mon, Tues, Fri-Sun one week; Wed-Thurs the next).
- Call is only for general surgery and emergency C-sections.
- Alternative schedules considered: 4x10s or 3x12s.
- Traveler required to report to a different facility for the first day, then resume contract at the Big Spring location.
- Start date expected within 3-5 weeks.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) circulating experience, with OR circulate experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Prior travel nursing experience.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card with consistent legal name across all documents (license, ID, SS card, certifications).
- Background check: 7-year check required within 30 days of start.
- E-Verify or attestation.
- Education verification or diploma as placeholder if pending.
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
- Facility-specific forms and acknowledgments (e.g., health record, code of conduct, confidentiality, orientation).
- Passport-style photo for badge.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
- Fit mask test within 6 months prior to start; annual updates required.
- Immunizations and titers required within 72 hours of contract signing:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with annual TB questionnaire)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or series with declination form if applicable)
- Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or proof of disease)
- Drug testing required within 30 days; must include standard panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoid, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine, methadone, propoxyphene).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination form required during flu season (Oct 31 - Mar 31).
- Initial COVID-19 vaccination series required; boosters not required.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references within the last 3 years.
- Resume or employment application copy.
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, pass/fail testing including EKG/medication).
- Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
Notes
- Legal name must be consistent across all documentation; proof of name change alone is not sufficient.
- If any discrepancies or issues arise with background checks or certifications, escalation to the appropriate manager or facility contact is required.
- Some certifications (e.g., PALS, TNCC) may have a grace period of 1 year for ICU or longer-term assignments.
- Traveler orientation specific to the facility is mandatory before starting.
