ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Marrero, Louisiana

Position Details

• Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
• Location: Marrero, Louisiana
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Shift: Night shift, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Hours per Week: 48 hours
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Neuro/Stroke patients
• Vascular surgeries
• Multi-level back surgeries
• General ICU patients

Schedule Options

• Alternating 3x12 and 4x12 shifts every other week, or
• Straight 4x12 shifts
• Weekend shifts every other weekend
• No on-call required

Float Assignments

• Float across Neuro ICU (NCU), Surgical ICU (SCU), and General ICU (all 3 ICU units)
• No specific unit assignment

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years ICU/Neuro nursing experience (highest requirement)
• EPIC electronic health record experience required
• Skills in:

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Continuous IV sedation
  • Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring (including bolts/spinal drains)
  • Ventilator management
  • Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) management

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Blue Card accepted; may be completed onsite within 30 days of start
• Basic Life Support (BLS) recommended
• Preferred: CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)

Required Licenses

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana
• State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (within 12 months, updated annually)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (within 12 months, updated annually)
• Core competencies Part I, II, and III (updated annually)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (two-step skin test or equivalent within 3 months of start)
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (signed within 12 months of start)
• Varicella, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters required if titers are low (must be completed within 60 days if started without boosters)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31), with medical/religious exemptions accepted
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)

Background & Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including:

  • Social Security trace
  • County, nationwide, sex offender, federal, and FACIS Level 3 checks
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Government-issued photo ID matching candidate documentation
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days

• No prior travel experience explicitly required for this position

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with neuro experience seeking a travel contract in a critical care setting with a focus on neuro/stroke patients and complex ICU care.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
