Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Shift
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Primarily weekdays with occasional weekends and rotating holidays
- Must be willing to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Job Responsibilities
- Provide patient care within the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:5
- Perform IV starts and telemetry monitoring
- Document care using the Epic electronic health record system
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes required)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Monthly monitoring through workforce screening systems (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- Completion of Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting training and form
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Measles (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Mumps (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B (titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted)
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12; no exemptions if working with infants or pregnant patients)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask
- Fit mask (N95) testing required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
Competency & Certification Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- NIH Stroke certification may be required depending on unit assignment (verify during qualification)
Documentation & Other Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application including education verification required
- Skills checklist required
- License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear prior to start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions
