Registered Nurse – Transplant Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)

Unit Description

  • Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Unit (36 beds) providing medical surgical, telemetry, and progressive care to adult pre- and post-transplant patients (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal) and intestinal rehabilitation patients.
  • Adolescent patients (age 15+) are on the unit but cared for by core staff only.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 during the day, 1:6 at night (rarely 1:7 at night).
  • Drip medication administration required on all floors.
  • Floating is frequent and mandatory to meet staffing needs; may include multiple units and potentially a different campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Nebraska.
  • Minimum 2 years of transplant nursing experience, with transplant experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Certifications & Training

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA required.
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) preferred.

Scheduling & Time Off

  • Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri night/Sat night).
  • RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates: June 11–22, 2026 (due to College World Series).
  • Up to two weeks of RTO permitted; must be submitted with application. Additional requests after confirmation are at manager discretion.
  • Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; requests must be submitted with application.

Facility & Work Environment

  • 100% nicotine-free facility.
  • Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo on back (provided after confirmation).
  • Parking: Monthly permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates (~$3 for 20 hours).
  • Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county, statewide, nationwide, and federal checks.
  • Ongoing monthly SAM and OIG checks required.
  • Education verification required.
  • State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required.
  • Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required.
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually (specific panel required).
  • Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap within last 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
    • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
  • Annual skills checklist required.
  • Two professional references from the last 2 years required.

Additional Notes

  • Travelers are the first to float to other units as needed.
  • Pending license candidates will be booked six weeks out if license is not in hand at application.
  • Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here).
  • Facility is a top-rated acute care hospital with a strong academic and research focus.

This position is ideal for experienced transplant RNs comfortable with frequent floating, working in a high-acuity, academic medical center environment, and meeting strict compliance and certification requirements.
