Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Maryville, Tennessee
Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work primarily on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit with patient diagnoses including higher oxygen demands, dialysis patients, atrial fibrillation, and post-heart catheterization care.
• Unit functions as a step-down from ICU; no ventilator or pressor support required.
• Manage drips such as heparin, cardizem, amiodarone, and sotalol initiation.
• Telemetry monitoring involved.
• Floating to similar units may be required.
• Weekend coverage every other weekend, subject to change based on need.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
• Certifications:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty.
• Background check covering 7 years within 12 months of start, including alias and multi-state/county searches.
• E-Verify or attestation required.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter.
• Primary source verification of Tennessee RN license within 30 days of start; license must not expire within 30 days of start.
• Education verification of highest level completed.
• Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually (5-panel minimum).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start attesting ability to meet physical demands.
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot) within 90 days of start.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years if working in high-risk areas.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; second vaccine may be pending at start but must be completed within 28 days.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required by specified deadlines (not required for remote workers).
• Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation.

Orientation and Training

• Completion of online modules (approximately 12 hours) within 72 hours of assignment; mandatory before starting onsite.
• 16 hours of non-billable orientation onsite following online modules.
• Pass/fail testing for medication and arrhythmia competency required prior to orientation; two attempts allowed with an 84% passing score.
• Annual core competencies and training including universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, harassment, fire safety, and patient rights.

Additional Notes

• Floating policy may apply but is not required for this location.
• Badge photo required prior to start with specific background and quality requirements.
• Candidates with gaps over 30 days between contracts require updated physical and TB testing.
• Candidates must maintain all certifications and licenses current throughout the assignment.

Summary

This is a 13-week travel RN position on a night shift in a step-down Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit in Tennessee. The role requires at least 1 year of EPIC experience, current Tennessee RN licensure, and specific certifications including ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Candidates must complete required health screenings, background checks, and orientation modules prior to starting. First-time travelers may be considered based on experience.
