Registered Nurse – CVICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Shift: Night, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730), 3 shifts per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) during evening/night shifts.
  • Every other weekend and some holidays required; no on-call duties.
  • Experience with NextStage CVVH machine required.
  • Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable areas preferred.
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass a Telemetry test before starting.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum CVICU experience (critical care specialty) required (implied 1+ year typical for CVICU roles).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Must pass facility-specific Telemetry test prior to start.
  • Basic Arrhythmia knowledge mandatory.

Compliance & Credentialing Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including multi-location search for past 7 years.
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID Form (state-mandated).
  • Education verification as applicable.
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements.
  • Physical exam (per agency standard, not facility-mandated).
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • TB test or chest X-ray with questionnaire (annual updates required).
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers; medical/religious exemptions allowed with approval.
    • Varicella vaccination or titer; medical/religious exemptions allowed.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form if declining.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season).
    • Other vaccines/declinations as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal if working in specific departments).

Testing & Competency Exams

  • Telemetry testing:
    • Adult Telemetry Test (WorkRamp LMS) required, must be completed 2 Fridays prior to start and updated annually.
    • Candidates allowed 3 attempts with remediation after 2nd failure; failure after 3rd attempt results in contract cancellation.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment and pass/fail testing acknowledgment required.

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons).
  • Signed acknowledgment of Joint Commission Safety Manual.
  • References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard).
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required.
