Job Overview

Shift: Day, 12-hour shifts (6:45 AM–7:15 PM)
Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Connecticut
NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care (2 years of experience)
NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care experience within the last year
BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure issued by American Heart Association
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience with Epic

Key Clinical Skills

Neonates over 34 weeks
Phototherapy
Breastfeeding support and handling of breast milk
Bottle, breast, and gavage feedings
Placement and management of oral, nasogastric, and nasojejunal tubes
Isolation precautions
Central line and implanted line care
Starting and maintaining IVs
Antibiotics and antivirals
Neonatal dosage calculations
Phlebotomy

Preferred Experience

NICU III
Care of neonates under 24–28 weeks
Care of neonates 29–34 weeks

Schedule Notes

Must be available to commit to 4 shifts per month
First-time travelers are accepted

Orientation

Virtual welcome call and training videos
General HR orientation
Unit orientation based on availability
Epic training if the candidate does not pass Epic test-out

Additional Notes

Scrubs: Royal blue
Previous permanent employees must observe a 1-year separation period
Medical and religious exemptions are allowed
COVID vaccination is preferred but not required

Pros

Breaks became more strict towards the end of my contract. I didn’t care for management but the RNs i worked with on nights were great. You will only work L&D, never floated anywhere. Felt like with it being a teaching hospital providers were nice and patient with you most times.

Cons

Don’t have much of a say with scheduling. Their protocols for a few things are weird and different than a lot of hospitals. Can be pretty busy, may be coupled sometimes but not excessively.
