NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Clinton, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Summary

• Provide care in a Level II Special Care Nursery for neonates 32 weeks gestation or greater.
• Monitor and maintain cardiopulmonary, neurologic, metabolic, and thermal stability independently or with physician collaboration.
• Assist with specialized procedures such as lumbar puncture and endotracheal resuscitation.
• Initiate, modify, or stop treatments per established protocols/orders.
• Float to Postpartum and Labor & Delivery units to provide neonatal care.
• Work every other weekend and every other holiday.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
• Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• STABLE certification (post-resuscitation neonatal care).
• Successful completion of EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Licenses

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Maryland.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC).
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• STABLE certification (post-resuscitation neonatal care).
• Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:

  • Minimum overall score of 80%
  • 100% score on lethal rhythms section

Clinical Skills & Competencies

• Proficient in:

  • Respiratory support management (High Flow O2, CPAP, Mechanical Ventilation)
  • Central line management
  • Peripheral IV insertions and lab draws
  • Administration of IV antibiotics
  • Neonatal resuscitation and stabilization of newborns <32 weeks for transport to Level III facilities
  • Thermoregulation techniques for premature and full-term infants
  • Point of Care Blood Glucose measurement
  • Use of BD Alaris Smart Pumps

Additional Requirements

• Must complete facility-specific orientation modules prior to start.
• Must provide:

  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
• Must successfully pass background checks including criminal, education verification, and drug screening (excluding marijuana).
• Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform job duties without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
• Immunization and health documentation required:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (preferred)
  • Documentation of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
• N95 Fit Mask test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed).

Work Schedule & Expectations

• Night shift, 3 twelve-hour shifts per week (7 PM to 7 AM).
• Every other weekend and holiday coverage required.
• Floating to Postpartum and Labor & Delivery units for neonatal care is mandatory.

Prior Travel Experience

• Must have completed at least one prior travel nursing assignment.

This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with strong neonatal critical care skills, prior travel nursing experience, and certifications in neonatal resuscitation and advanced life support.
