Job Opportunity: EEG Tech (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: Richmond, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) monitoring and performing maintenance on EEGs.
  • Cover inpatient EEG requests as needed.
  • Must work holidays that fall during scheduled shifts.
  • Start date: ASAP.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of EEG tech experience required.
  • Experience with pediatrics is required.

Certifications & Licenses

  • ACLS (AHA only)
  • BLS (AHA only)
  • PALS (AHA only)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as applicable
  • State license verification as required (Note: Temporary RN licenses not accepted; permanent license required for RNs. Not required for EEG Tech.)
  • National certifications for EEG techs are not required, but clinical experience is mandatory.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including all states lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification or proof of diploma required.
  • Fingerprinting per Virginia State Police requirements, especially for pediatrics units.
  • Completion of Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search process within 48 hours of contract signing; can start with results pending if submission proof is on file.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per guidelines (Q-gold/T-spot or two PPDs).
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers required; booster if low titer.
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination.
  • Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum; instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for the 2025-26 season.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have EMU monitoring experience.
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be approved and included in the contract.
  • Two professional references required.
  • Complete application/resume required.
  • Required competencies include medication/pharmacology exams, color blindness testing, abuse reporting competency, and others as applicable.
  • Orientation includes exams such as Pharmacology, Point of Care Testing, and Mask Fitting.
  • Candidates must complete assigned learning modules during orientation week (~6 hours).
  • Candidates must bring mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and a laptop or cell phone (note if not available).

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience required.

This position is ideal for EEG techs with pediatric experience looking for a travel contract in a neurodiagnostic setting with holiday work requirements.
