Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (standard), with options from 14 to 26 weeks available by request

Job Details

• Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), unit assignment based on facility need after clinical evaluation
• Shift: 3x12 hour nights (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
• Optional: 4x12 hour shifts available by request
• Patient Ratio: Currently 1:5 (goal is 1:4)
• Floating: All travelers expected to float as needed within their acuity level
• Start Date: Flexible

Required Experience & Skills

• Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years as a Registered Nurse (PCU or relevant experience)
• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience is required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required (AHA only)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (AHA only)

Certifications & Licensure

• Valid RN license for Virginia with primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI)
• Compliance with facility-specific credentialing and orientation requirements

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
• Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Required immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination form (masking required if declined)

Background & Compliance

• 7-year background check required within 1 year of start, covering all locations lived/worked
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education verification of highest earned degree required
• Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
• Complete employment application/resume required
• Annual skills checklist update required
• Photo for badge required (professional, plain background)
• Facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements must be completed within 48 hours of signing

Additional Notes

• Candidates must provide a valid Driver’s License or State ID within 48 hours of signing, with an address within 100 miles of the facility
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
• Orientation manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
• Candidates must be prepared to float and adapt to unit needs
