Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Correctional) - Illinois, Chicago
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg - Correctional)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days off, no more than 2 consecutive days; no time off on holidays or weekends; no time off the day before or after a holiday
- Floating: Mandatory float within scope to meet facility needs

- Must live within 75 miles of the facility (locals preferred)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing (Correctional experience preferred)
- BLS certification (American Heart Association)
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Illinois

- Correctional healthcare setting
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Electronic charting system: Cerner

Required Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start)
- Color Blind Testing (required within 12 months of start)
- Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for RNs in certain specialties including Med Surg; must be updated annually)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year of start, updated annually; medical or religious exemptions require approval
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months of start, updated annually; chest x-ray if positive TB history
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year of start
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; must include all aliases and various national/statewide checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Government-issued photo ID (state ID or driver’s license)
- Social Security card required
- Completion of facility-specific forms and rules of behavior
- Non-employee/volunteer application with PREA clearance (time sensitive, must be completed within 24 hours of contract signing)
Additional Notes
- Locals accepted but must live within 75 miles of the facility
- No pending licenses accepted
- Mandatory floating to other units as needed within scope of practice
